Description

Attractive share certificate issued by J.B. Misselbacher sen. S.A., a prominent German-Romanian trading company in Transylvania, dated 1 June 1944, in the amount of 500,000 Lei, beautifully printed with a rich border design.

Founded in 1927, this joint-stock company evolved from the original firm Johann Baptist Misselbacher, established in 1818. With two department stores and a warehouse in Sighişoara (Schäßburg) and additional operations in Alba Iulia (Karlsburg), it played a major role in regional trade. The company dealt in colonial goods, paints, haberdashery, glass, porcelain, and fancy goods.

By the 1880s, it had expanded with branches in Hermannstadt, Cluj, Trieste, and Vienna. It was the leading wholesaler of cotton yarn in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The enterprise survived until it was nationalized in 1950 during the communist expropriations. Signed by the Director and issued to the member of the owner’s family

A very rare piece from one of Transylvania’s most historically significant trading houses.
