Description

Bill of exchange dated 15 June 1925, issued in Baghdad by the trading firm Meyer Tweg & Joseph Moshi for £74.4.1 sterling. Drawn on Messrs. Frank C. Strick & Co. (Basrah) Ltd., payable in London to Gulbenkian Bros. & Co. Stamped by the National Bank of England, The Eastern Bank Ltd., and Frank C. Strick & Co., with multiple endorsements and vivid cancellation marks in violet and red. The document features dual adhesive revenues — British 2d and Iraqi 2 Annas — and bears the signatures of the Baghdad merchants. A highly desirable artifact of early 20th‑century Anglo‑Iraqi commercial exchange, illustrating active trade in the oil and shipping sectors between Basrah, Baghdad, and London.
