Description

Rare handwritten foreign exchange rate sheet dated 14 August 1870, issued by Ulric Zellweger & Cie, Paris. The sheet lists 3-month bill of exchange quotations for major European trade centers, including Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Madrid, St. Petersburg, Vienna, and others.

Ulric Zellweger & Cie was a prominent Swiss merchant and banking family from Trogen, Appenzell, deeply involved in international textile trade and finance during the 18th and 19th centuries. They were well connected to major European financial centers, and their financial records (such as this exchange rate sheet) are historically important in understanding cross-border commerce during the Franco-Prussian War period (1870).

This is an exceptional piece for collectors of European financial history and pre-central banking exchange practices, combining rarity, historical importance, and manuscript appeal.
