Lot 279:
Description
Early and impressive mortgage bond (Lettre de Gage) issued by Société de Crédit Foncier International, with administrative offices in Brussels and London. Dated 1863, denomination 100 Francs. Rich with handwritten annotations and signatures. This institution was closely associated with Baron Maurice de Hirsch (1831–1896), a German-Jewish financier and philanthropist who amassed a fortune in railway and banking ventures and became one of Europe’s most prominent benefactors. De Hirsch was renowned for funding Jewish education and agricultural colonization through the Jewish Colonization Association, supporting the migration of Jewish communities to the Americas. A rare financial artifact linking 19th-century international mortgage operations with one of the era’s most influential figures in global finance and philanthropy.
