Description

A highly attractive and rare colonial-era handwritten letra de cambio (bill of exchange) issued in Bilbao, Spain, and payable in Madrid, dated September 8, 1794. The amount of 20,000 reales de vellón is ordered to be paid in silver or gold coin.

Drawn by Eugenio Ahumada and endorsed to Eugenio de la Torre, a Madrid-based individual. The bill displays beautiful calligraphy, old Spanish cursive, and phrases invoking divine blessing (“Que Dios mut.ant.”). The reverse bears clear signature endorsements and date annotation (June 13, 1795).

Documents of this period are exceptionally scarce, particularly in such clean and legible condition.
