Description

Highly attractive and scarce Second of Exchange issued in Mexico City by the Banco de Londres y México on 29 August 1893, instructing payment of $1,000 pesos in New York, via The Bank of British North America, 52 Wall Street.

Finely printed with intricate guilloche patterns and bold “2” across the center, this document reflects the role of British-Mexican banking in transatlantic finance at the end of the 19th century. Signed by the bank’s Gerente (Manager) and Contador (Accountant), with embossed seal of the issuing bank.

Banco de Londres y México, originally founded in 1864 by British interests, was one of the most important financial institutions in Latin America and a key agent of international payments.

Condition report:

Crisp and clean with strong printing and wide margins. Fold marks as issued; no tears or ink loss. Very fine specimen for collectors of Latin American banking, numismatics, or British overseas finance.
