Paper Money, Bonds and Shares
Lot 169:
Description
Historical promissory note issued by G. Amsinck & Co., a major New York merchant banking firm active in Latin America during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This beautifully engraved “DUPLICATE” check was drawn from their Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) operations, demonstrating the firm’s extensive international reach. The document is made payable to the order of Gutierrez Hermanos and signed by S. Michelena, a prominent local representative of G. Amsinck & Co. in Puerto Plata. Michelena played a significant role in facilitating trade and financial transactions between the Dominican Republic and the United States. A fine example of early American-Caribbean commercial finance.
