Description

Attractive and visually rich bill of exchange dated 1st August 1881, issued in Copenhagen by Kjøbenhavns Handelsbank and drawn on Rothschild Frères in Paris for the sum of 754 francs. The bill is made payable to J.R. Scheldersups Eftf. and endorsed by various banking houses, including J.J. Oschwald, Zurich, and stamped Banque d’Alsace Lorraine Strasbourg.

This example features an ornate crowned arms emblem of Kjøbenhavns Handelsbank, blue and green banking stamps, printed text “AU BESOIN AU CREDIT LYONNAIS, ” and bold manuscript markings.

A fine example of international 19th-century banking correspondence, illustrating the interconnected financial networks across Denmark, Switzerland, France, and Germany at the time. The presence of both Rothschild Frères and Credit Lyonnais adds notable appeal for collectors of banking history and scripophily.
