Description

A scarce and beautifully preserved financial instrument issued in Bergen, Norway, on 5 May 1881 by Bergens Kreditbank, authorizing the payment of 170 Francs to Mademoiselle Bobette Franck via Rothschild Frères, Paris.

This elegant cheque features the bank’s ornate logo, printed vignette of a female allegory, handwritten entries, and a prominent stamp with serial No. 49271. The reverse bears two French 10 centimes revenue stamps, tied by blue crayon cancel and manuscript endorsement, indicating successful redemption in Paris (dated 12 May 1881). An early and rare example of cross-border financial correspondence involving the prestigious Rothschild banking house.
